Chess Endgame

Chess endgame is the part of the game where there are not many pieces left on the board. The ending is different from the middlegame and the strategies involved are different. Pawns become more important in the ending. Pawns are generally pushed to promotion in the ending. The King becomes stronger in the ending and participates much more.

The stronger side in the ending should strive to exchange pieces and keep pawns. The weaker side should try to avoid exchanging pieces. There is no strict rule for when an ending begins and there are alot of different opinions on when the ending begins. Some players consider the ending to be positions without queens, others consider a position to be an endgame when each player has less than a queen plus rook in material. Some players believe that the ending starts when the player who is to move can force a win or a draw against any variation of moves.

Chess endings are seen as combining beauty and precision, lifting the game of chess into the realm of art. Chess players find the ending to be one of the unique and subtle wonders of the Royal Game. Many hard fought middlegames have been won only with good endgame technique. These chess endgame books will give you the edge needed for chess success.

To study the endgame, there are two main things you should concern yourself with. The first is theory. The second is application. How to study the endgame?
