Chess Board Setup

how to setup chess board

Chess board setup. The chess board consists of 64 black and white squares arranged in an 8x8 grid. The rows on the chess board are called ranks and are marked with the numbers 1-8 (from bottom to top) and the columns, known as files, are notated with the letters a-h (or their correspondences in the relevant language; left to right).

Before setting up the chess board, note that the lowest square on each player's right has to be white. After you have verified that "white on (your) right", start with putting the chess pieces in their places.

Follow this step to step guide to learn how to set up the chess board and where to place all of the chess pieces. Here is great instruction on Chess board setup Play E4.com
