Chess Addiction

Chess Addiction in the opinion of some world leaders is a dangerous form of mental addiction. The adrenaline rush of playing the game of chess can be addicting. Some people play chess continuously. I even have a friend who plays chess on his cell phone while he's driving home from work. He also usually has about 50 online chess games going on at once.
Constantly playing chess has been known to mess up people's lives. I'm not sure, but I'll bet the divorce rate among addicted chess players is pretty high. It might be worth it to check on the statistics on this form of addiction and it's affect on marriage.
Some addicted chess players suffer almost a mental breakdown when they lose a game of chess. They spend unlimited hours analyzing the game and lose sleep trying to figure out where they went wrong.
Now that we have the Internet, addiction to chess has increased dramatically. There are many websites where you can play chess 24 hours a day. To get to the highest levels of chess, World Championship competition, chess grandmasters spend many hours a day on chess. Is this addiction? Maybe, maybe not. They are many factors in determining addiction to chess and I believe that 90% of all chess players have experienced some type of addiction to the game. This subject requires further study and is beyond the realm of this page.
Chess is a wonderful game to play and will continue to be. Just have fun with it and know your limitations. Don't let a game destroy your life.
